A Wedding Photographer's Kit Bag

A Wedding Photographer's Kit Bag

Cameras

The Canon EOS R6 mark II has completely transformed my photography experience since moving over from DSLR cameras. Its speed and power are fantastic, with the ability to shoot at an incredible 40 frames per second, allowing me to capture so much more. The advanced eye-tracking autofocus ensures my couples stay sharp during fast paced weddings.

I also love the digital viewfinder, which eliminates the need for test shots by showing exactly how my final image will look there and then. The dual memory card slots provide peace of mind, ensuring I don’t lose important shots due to a corrupted card. Plus, its outstanding low-light performance gives me the confidence to shoot in darker environments without worrying about noise or quality loss.

I also have an original Canon EOS R6 too, which I alternate during the day and use as a backup.

My two favourite lenses

85mm

My favourite lens would be the Canon RF 85mm f1.2L USM lens. The focal length allows me to photograph my couple from a sensible distance so that they don’t feel like I’m too close. The photos come out with a more natural and relaxed feel this way. The sharpness and shallow depth of field you get with this lens is dreamy. Perfect for couple portraits. The large aperture has also helped a lot in low-light situations especially with candle-lit churches. I just wish it wasn’t so heavy, no pain no gain!

35mm

Another favourite focal length of mine would be the 35mm. I have recently been testing out the Canon RF 35mm F1.4L VCM lens at weddings and during newborn sessions. I find I get a very natural perspective from it that works well for portraits, group shots, and candid moments without excessive distortion. It’s lightweight and has precise focusing which is super important with wedding photography.

Other kit I can’t live without

  • Loads and loads of SD cards and batteries
  • Speedlights – my current ones are the Godox 860III and recently the Canon EL-5
  • SD card case
  • Lens cloths and Air blower
