FP vs FPL, what's the difference?
The FPL was released in 2021, while the FP was released back in 2019. Although the FPL is newer, it is not a direct replacement, just another option which they offer.
The main difference is the sensor. They are both full frame, however, the FPL sports a very high resolution 61mp, while the FP has a more modest 24mp. Both offer fantastic image quality and dynamic range, but the FPL is currently un-beaten when it comes to sheer full frame resolution!
The autofocus on the FP uses a Contrast Detection system, but the FPL uses Phase Detection, meaning quicker and more accurate acquisition.
