Wild Arena – Macro Photography with Canon
Join the team at Wild Arena for 3 exciting Facebook LIVE broadcasts covering macro photography from their studio. During each session, they will cover some basic macro ideas, and then look in more detail at 3 particularly topics that are important when shooting small subjects.
11.05 am – The importance of the right lens
The guys will begin by introducing some simple ideas that are important for capturing great macro images. They will then go on the talk about the importance of choosing the right lens for the job and knowing what level of performance you can expect from it. Discussions will cover reproduction ratio, focal length choice, working distances and expected depth of field.
They will also demonstrate the capabilities of macro lenses by shooting some subjects live in the studio, and hopefully this will prove both interesting and entertaining!
As always with their live session they are very happy to answer questions from viewers as they go along, so why not schedule to ‘tune in’ and work up your close-up skills with the experts!
1.00 pm – Managing focus and controlling depth of field
As with the other sessions, the guys will begin by introducing some simple ideas that are important for capturing great macro images. They will then go on to run through a live demonstration of our expectations of Depth of Field (DoF) and focus operation with close up images. They will cover the basic principles of varying DoF by changing apertures, the effect of reduced DoF as you shoot closer and considering the plane of focus.
They will also demonstrate the complications of focus by shooting some subjects live in the studio, and hopefully this will prove both interesting and entertaining!

3.00 pm – Using ‘flash’ light and ‘continuous’ light for close ups
As with the other sessions, the guys will begin by introducing some simple ideas that are important for capturing great macro images. The team will then go on to talk about how useful, additional, artificial lighting can be in adding illumination to your subjects. They will cover the key decision of choosing flash or continuous light sources and discuss the various advantages and drawbacks of these 2 options.
They will also demonstrate the advantages of both flash and continuous lighting by shooting some subjects live in the studio, and hopefully this will prove both interesting and entertaining!
