The lens has an advanced optical design that incorporates 1 FLD elements, 5 SLD elements, and three aspherical elements, including one large-diameter aspherical element. This optical system minimises transverse chromatic aberration and other optical aberrations, and ensures exceptional quality results with remarkable sharpness across the whole frame at all apertures.

The lens delivers outstanding F2.8 brightness throughout the zoom range, perfect for anyone wishing to use the lens hand-held in low light, such as at a wedding. At the rear of the lens a filter holder allows for back-end filters to be added, such as NDs.

High-performance optics

The 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art delivers outstanding optical quality, with excellent rendering of detail right into the corners at all focal lengths and at all apertures.

The lens has an advanced optical design made up of 18 elements in 13 groups, including 3 aspherical elements, 5 SLD elements and 1 FLD element. This ensures razor-sharp results and helps to eliminate chromatic aberration, flare, distortion and vignetting.

Advanced optical coatings reduce flare and ghosting when working in bright direct sunlight, creating high-contrast images with rich colours and strong blacks

Rear filter holder

The bulbous front element and fixed petal hood means the lens doesn’t have a front filter thread, which makes attaching a filter holder more difficult. To get around this, SIGMA has fitted a rear filter holder.

The rear glass filters (available from several filter manufacturers) are about the size of an SD card, so very small and light, and as they’re positioned between the camera and lens, don’t tend to get damaged or dirty. It’s also possible to cut filters by hand using gel sheets. A template is included with the lens.

Fast aperture for low-light shooting

The constant F2.8 aperture brings two key advantages. The first is faster shutter speeds, which makes it easier to shoot hand-held in low light conditions without the risk of camera shake.

The second is a shallow depth-of-field, which means blurry background when there is an in-focus foreground subject.

Outstanding build quality

The exceptional build quality of the 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN is exactly as you’d expect on an Art line lens, both in the materials used, the overall ergonomics and the quality of craftsmanship.

The exterior barrel is made of a polycarbonate called Thermally Stable Composite (TSC). Not only is this very strong and light, but it has a similar thermal expansion rate to aluminium. This ensures that the interior aluminium parts behave in the same way as the external polymer-based parts as temperatures change.

The zoom and focus rings are rubberised for easier operation, and both are internal, meaning the lens never changes length. This makes it ideal for use on a gimbal as the centre of gravity remains fairly constant.

The fixed petal-type lens hood is strong and sleek and protects the bulbous front element from damage if dropped.

The durable brass mount is surrounded by a rubber seal to help keep out dust and moisture.

Made in Japan

All Sigma cameras and lenses are designed, manufactured and assembled at their sole factory at Aizu in Japan. This domestic production model is unusual in today’s industry, with most imaging companies opting to outsource to other countries to reduce costs. But SIGMA believes that keeping virtually all manufacturing, processing and assembly in Aizu is essential for creating innovative, carefully thought-out and impeccably constructed products that meet the high standards demanded by professional photographers and film-makers around the world.
