Fast and precise AF, plus VC for stable handheld shooting

The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 utilizes the renowned VXD linear motor focus mechanism. This advanced AF mechanism combines class-leading speed and precision, enabling fast and accurate focusing from MOD (Minimum Object Distance) through to infinity.

The lens is equipped with TAMRON's proprietary VC2 mechanism, and effectively controls camera shake that can occur when shooting at telephoto focal lengths. It also helps reduce fuzzy pictures when shooting handheld in low-light conditions which typically require slower shutter speeds.

Half-macro photography with 1:2 magnification ratio at the 50mm end

The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 is capable of extremely high performance when shooting close-ups, particularly for an ultra-telephoto zoom lens. Users can enjoy half-macro shooting with an MOD of 0.25m (9.8 in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 50mm zoom setting. Moreover, at the 400mm telephoto end, the MOD is 1.5m (59.1 in), thereby providing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 for amazing, dynamic shots. The unprecedented level of freedom in shooting reveals the charm of subjects more than ever, plus flexible shooting options previously unseen in ultra-telephoto zooms. 

TAMRON Lens Utility

The new software „TAMRON Lens Utility“, has been specially developed by Tamron to configure its own compatible lenses. TAMRON Lens Utility can be operated using computer by connecting the lens from its Connector Port via the optional TAMRON Connection Cable. Users can customize the functions and update the firmware through the lens. The personal customization gives flexible shooting options to match the shooting situation such as still photography or videography. With the help of the personal configuration, the lens can be optimally adapted to the respective shooting situation, for example photo or video.

• VC: Vibration Compensation – Tamron-developed image stabilisation that compensates for unwanted camera movement for sharper images. Shutter speeds of up to 5 EV stops slower are possible with the VC image stabiliser.
• ZL: Zoom Lock – The ZL mechanism prevents unwanted extension of the tube during transport. The lock, which is activated by a switch, protects the lens from damage and at the same time guarantees that it is quickly ready for use.
• TLU: TAMRON Lens Utility software was developed by us to configure our own TAMRON lenses. After installing the program on a computer, compatible lenses can be connected to the computer via a connecting cable to customize various lens functions or to update the lens firmware.
• BBAR G2: Broad Band Anti-Reflection - The BBAR multi-coating ensures brilliant images with natural colours. It reduces the reflection of light rays hitting the lens surface. The more advanced BBAR G2 coating has been used since 2019.
